Testimonial Colombia (730 Kb.)

"Since 1984, the Colombia electrical system has lost roughly 300 towers to dynamiting and sabotage. The loss of 100 of these towers directly affected the electrical system of Interconexion ESA. 75% of the Colombia transmission grade is located in rugged mountain terrain where access is very, very limited. This is one of the main reasons that we chose the Lindsey restoration system because of the ease of handling and transporting the system to remote locations. The investment in these structures has been a great benefit for the operations and maintenance departments.

The Lindsey towers have been excellent tools and we have used them on numerous occasions, building a variety of tower configurations. The real benefit for my company is that the Lindsey towers have increased the level of reliability in delivering power to our customers. Our engineering personnel have achieved a high level of confidence in the use of the computer programs supplied by Lindsey. In addition, our linemen have achieved a good safety record and have a very high confidence level in the use of the Emergency Restoration System due to the extensive training and actual field use. Therefore, with these structures, we are able to restore electrical service very quickly and we have avoided the high cost of alternate power generation. Finally, we have avoided the social and political cost that can result from the loss of electric service in certain areas".-- Engineer Mario Aristizabal Moreno Line Maintenance Engineering, Interconexion Eletrica S.A., Colombia
Testimonial Hurricane Pauline (445 Kb.)

"On Thursday, October 9, 1997, Hurricane Pauline devastated the coast of Guerrero and Oaxaca. Even before the storm hit, the Commission Federal de Electridad put into motion emergency procedures for returning power within a minimum of delay. 95,000 customers were affected by Hurricane Pauline, 43 towers were destroyed, 350 poles were knocked down and 375 kilometers of the transmission line was out of service. Nevertheless because of the rapid response of the Commission Federal de Electridad's technicians and line men, 90% of the power was restored within 72 hours. And one week after the disaster, 100% of the electricity has been restored.

'My fellow electricians, Congratulations! I'm very proud of you. You are the champions. What you did in just a few days, no one else in the world could do.'" -- Lic. Ernesto Zedrillo, President of Mexico

As always, our efforts are for you, our customers of the Commission Federal de Electridad.
Testimonial Northridge Earthquake (593 Kb.)

"In '88, we had 18 towers go down in extreme width. 17 of these towers was on one line and one was on another line, adjacent in the corridor. It's very rare that you have well, I'd say it's rare, but it's not very common that you have that many towers down in one line in one stretch. Now when these towers went down, because it was a straight line and simple towers or guide towers, (they are the simplest a tower gets) but we put up 7 Lindseys and managed to salvage enough steel out of the 18 or the other 17 downed towers to get the line back in. So, it went back in on 7 Lindseys and 10 restored towers that were made up out of the bent steel from the other ones that we got a good piece of steel from each tower and so forth. But if those towers hadn't been salvageable and it had been a more complex line, we still had those other Lindseys coming from the other utilities that we could have fell back on and installed it all back on Lindseys.

The whole city went black at 4:31 in the morning when the earthquake hit. There were no lights in Los Angeles and there was only one transmission line into the Southend that was functional. Without the Lindsey restoration, we would have been out for another 10-15 days before we could have got the towers and we were fortunate to have those towers available". -- Leroy Hogg-General Superintendent of Transmission, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, U.S.A.-January 17, 1994
