ERS Services
Design analysis of ERS for emergencies or for planned maintenance
| Since 1982, Lindsey has supplied thousands of Lindsey ERS structures around the world. If you own or have access to Lindsey ERS structures we can provide assistance in the design of specific ERS structures to meet your specific needs. This service can be provided on a one time contract basis, or these services can be made available to you on an emergency, 24/7 basis. |

 |
Examples of what Lindsey has done for other asset owners:
- Design of 400kV bypass towers on critical lines in Europe allowing maintenance on the existing towers, without loss of service.
- Design of 132kV bypass towers for maintenance work in Asia.
- Design of a 500kV tower during an emergency situation in the US.
Field Assistance during emergencies or planned maintenance
| If you would like assistance constructing a Lindsey ERS during planned line relocations or during an actual emergency situation, Lindsey's experienced field engineers can provide this service. Lindsey can provide this service on a one time contract basis, or these services can be made available to you on an emergency, 24 hour, 7 days a week basis. |

Examples of what Lindsey has done for other asset owners:
- Assist in storm damage repair on critical 230kV lines in Southeast Asia.
- Assist in restoring sabotaged 132kV lines in Southeast Asia.
- Assist in building 230kV bypass river crossing in India.
Field and Computer Training for your staff
Lindsey will provide refresher courses in the construction of ERS structures and in the use of the ProSpot® ERS computer analysis programs for your field and engineering staff. These refresher courses will be scheduled at your facilities, and will be tailored to meet your specific needs. In addition Lindsey can assess your current needs and emergency inventory levels to insure adequate coverage in the event of an emergency.
Assessment and Planning for emergencies
The key to the development of an adequate transmission line emergency response is a commitment by the transmission asset owner to a proactive, long-term plan for responding to anticipated emergency situations. Lindsey can assist in the formulation and implementation of this plan. This plan will include:
- Identification of potential risks to the asset owner.
- Development of various restoration scenarios for these identified risks.
- Selection of scenarios consistent with the corporate policy.
- Plan the structure and membership of an operational restoration team.
- Operational liaison with external emergency response organizations.
- Development of an on-going training program consistent with the corporate policy.
- Conduct post event evaluations and implement continuous improvements.
The Lindsey team of engineering professionals brings a wealth of international experience in the formulation and implementation of proactive emergency response policy and planning. Our staff was instrumental in formulating international guidelines for emergency resource planning for overhead transmission line asset owners.
Mechanical component testing
Life assessment of old or worn hardware
Damage to suspension clamps and associated fittings can occur in areas subjected to wind induced motion. In time this wear can be sufficient to reduce the remaining strength of the supporting hardware to dangerous levels and eventually to line failure. Various testing and modelling techniques can be used to assess the condition of the overhead transmission line, enabling transmission line asset owners to achieve greater efficiency when planning refurbishment or maintenance activities in a time of limited resources.
Examples of what Lindsey has done for other asset owners:
- Determination of remaining life of overhead ground wire components for a Northeast utility.
- Mechanical testing of aged 500kV non-ceramic insulators (NCIs) for a Western utility.
- Destructive and non-destructive testing of line hardware to determine reliability levels.

Dynamic modeling of insulator and hardware assemblies
Scale model tests can be used to determine dynamic impact factors produced on suspension and dead end strain assemblies, when an insulator breaks. Using these impact factors, transmission line asset owners can estimate the loads being imposed on the remaining insulator strings. With the knowledge of the statistical strength distribution of these remaining insulators, asset owners can determine the probability of the entire dead end assembly "letting go" or failing if one of the insulators in the insulator string were to fail.

The Lindsey team of engineering professionals can model, both theoretically and with scale model tests, any variety of hardware arrangements..
Design
Customized hardware and tool design and certification
Lindsey has the engineering design experience and capabilities to thoroughly analyze, test and produce customized hardware and tool designs.

Examples of what Lindsey has done for other asset owners:
- Analyze unique loading on compact 115kV transmission line.
- Design, fabricate, test and certify special 500kV maintenance yoke plates and tools.
Distribution line monitoring system design and certification
Lindsey has the in-house experience and test facilities to assemble a complete overhead or underground distribution monitoring site including power supply, cross arms, monitoring insulators (or Smart Pins ® with insulators) and communication equipment. Once assembled, Lindsey can laboratory test and certify each unit and ship it ready to install. Lindsey can work with your field crews and engineering staff during initial installation, to insure proper installation, calibration and data retrieval from remote sites to control centers.
